VIRTUES

Virtues cannot be cultivated. You have to assume that they are there.
In the Gita, Krishna said to Arjuna, "Grieve not Arjuna, you are born with
virtues."
The seeker should remember that he is born with virtues; otherwise he could
not have been a seeker.
If you think you do not have virtues and then try to cultivate them, you will
fail.
You often compare yourself with others on the basis of virtues. Do not
compare yourself with them. Simply recognize all the virtues you appreciate in
others, and realize that they are already present in you in seed form. You only
have to nurture them.
When you think you do not have a virtue, then you come from a space of lack
or deficiency.

Always There
Hello God, I called tonight
To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me,
So I'll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.

Give me faith, dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.

I thank you God, for being home
And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and fall.

Your number, God, is the only one
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you, God, for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You, too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!

Life:24 Things To Always Remember

Your presence is a present to the world.
You are unique and one of a kind.
Your life can be what you want it to be.
Take the days just one at a time.

Count your blessings, not your troubles.
You will make it through whatever comes along.
Within you are so many answers.
Understand, have courage, be strong.

Do not put limits on yourself.
So many dreams are waiting to be realized.
Decisions are too important to leave to chance.
Reach for your peak, your goal and you prize.

Nothing wastes more energy than worrying.
The longer one carries a problem the heavier it gets.
Do not take things too seriously.
Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.

Remember that a little love goes a long way.
Remember that a lot … goes forever.
Remember that friendship is a wise investment.
Life’s treasure are people together.

Realize that it is never too late.
Do ordinary things in an extraordinary way.
Have hearth and hope and happiness.
Take the time to wish upon a start.

AND DO NOT EVER FORGET ….
FOR EVEN A DAY
HOW VERY SPECIAL YOU ARE !

Make your home God's home and there will be light,
love and abundance.
Make your body God's abode and there will be peace and
bliss.
Feel your mind as a toy of God and you'll watch and
enjoy all its games.
See this world as play and as a display of God Himself
and you will repose in the Non-Dual Self.
Blessing comes to you in many forms.
If you are generous, blessing comes to you as
abundance.
If you are hardworking, blessing
comes to you as happiness.
If you are lazy, blessing comes to you as
hard work! (Laughter)
If you are pleasure
loving, blessing comes to you as dispassion.
If you are dispassionate,
blessing comes to you as knowledge of the Self.

PostPosted: Sat Nov 15, 2008 10:10 pm    Post subject: HOW TO DEAL WITH ANXIETY Reply with quote

Today many are anxious about how to deal with their anxiety!
Here are some of the ways you can manage your anxiety:

1 :Sing, dance and celebrate. The very intention to celebrate will pull you away from anxiety to a more harmonious state.

2. Think about what you can do for others rather than just about yourself. Energize yourself with some service activity.

3. Combined practice of yoga, breathing and meditation.

4. Know the impermanence of the world.

5. Having faith and surrendering to the Divine and knowing that there is a supreme power who loves you. The supreme power is behind you and accepts you totally. The sense of security comes with the sense of belongingness.

6. Valour/courage: Invoking the lion within you and having an attitude of sacrifice will rescue you from anxiety.

7. Reminding yourself that you are committed to a greater goal will keep the anxiety away.

8. Being unpredictable for a while. Anxiety is always related to some anticipated action. Do something completely irrelevant and unpredictable.

9. Readiness to face the worst will leave you with stability in the mind.

10. Remembering a similar situation in the past when you were able to overcome your anxiety.

PostPosted: Wed Nov 19, 2008 9:40 pm    Post subject: Respect and Ego Reply with quote

Respect and Ego

There are two types of respect.

1. Respect that comes to you because of your position, fame or wealth. This
type of respect is impermanent. It can be lost once you lose your wealth or
status.

2. Respect that comes because of your virtues like honesty, kindness,
commitment, patience and your smile. This respect, no one can take away.

The less you are attached to your virtues, the more self respect you have.
If you get attached to your virtues, you look down upon everybody else and
they (the virtues) start diminishing. Non- attachment to virtues brings the
highest self respect.

Often one confuses ego with self esteem. Ego needs the other for
comparision, self esteem is just confidence in oneself. For example, a
gentleman claims that he is thorough in Mathematics or Geography, this is
self esteem. But to say that I know better than you, that is Ego.

Ego simply means lack of respect to the Self.

Ego upsets you very often. Self esteem is immune to getting upset by
external factors. In self respect, everything is a game, winning or losing
has no meaning, every step is joy, every move is celebration.

In Self esteem you simply realise you have it.

One of the rarest combinations in the human personality is the co-existence
of confidence and humility. Often people who are confident are not humble
and people with humility are not confident.

Confidence blended with humility is most appreciated by everybody.

# When you see your life from a bigger context of time and space, then you
realize your life is nothing.
# When you are humble you need to see that you are unique and dear to the
Divine, which brings confidence, and when you realize you are insignificant,
that brings confidence.
# When you have a guru, you cannot be arrogant. Your guru gives you
confidence and also brings humility in you. The weakness in humility and the
arrogance in confidence are removed.

You are left with confidence and humility!

Are You Blessed?
  by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness..........you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation.......you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace....... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married........you are very rare, even in the United States.

If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful.....you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

If you prayed yesterday and today........you are in the minority because you believe God does hear and answer prayers.

If you can read now, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

Dreaming the Impossible

What is daydreaming? You have a desire but you do not have the faith that
you can achieve your desire - that is what you call daydreaming.

You can control daydreaming by having a strong goal and believing in it.

Like the scientist who wanted to go to the moon and kept dreaming about it -
for him it was the goal of his life but for others it was daydreaming.

Either you drop that it will not happen or you believe!

When you do not know yourself, your potentiality, you have no faith and
confidence in your dream.

Once you have faith and confidence in your dream, it is no longer a
daydream!

PostPosted: Sun Nov 23, 2008 1:46 pm    Post subject: HOPE Reply with quote

HOPE:

I cannot and I will not lie down and kneel before my life. I cannot and I will not let the destiny that life has dealt me be the only destiny worth living for. I am I, you are you, we are distinct and we are individuals. I will carve my own destiny and I will dream my own dreams. I will walk bare footed through the warm golden sand, sleep naked under the stars and listen to the sea as it lashes against the rocks of hypocrisy. I will let the wind play with my hair and be at one with nature. This is my island and it is called hope.

As long as I am alive I have hope there is a chance, there is a dream to be fulfilled and a life worth living. I aspire not for wealth, for success, to conquer lands or the minds of men but seek refugee in conquering myself. I seek refugee in the hope of touching the stars in the blackness of the night. I ask for the courage to confront my greatest enemy, myself. I ask for the courage to help me to realise the potential that burns within my soul.

As I walk along my island of hope, alone, with merely my thoughts and the sound of my beating heart who have I become and what am I to become? As the sun sets on the horizon, there is calm all around me. The day nears to an end and slowly the sky goes black. Through the darkness appear the glittering eyes of the world and they gaze down at me, the moon smiles at me yet I am I. An eagle flies above me with its wings of hope spread wide into the vastness and emptiness of the ocean in front of me.

I am finally at peace with my soul. My island, which I have strove to seek all my life, is now within my grasp. I have arrived. My island is a place of non-attachment and non-possession. It is a place of calmness where the pains of yesterday are but a distant memory. I have courage within my heart to face my ultimate destiny. As it looks at me, I smile at it. I no longer fear that which I once feared, I no longer yearn for more but am content with what I have gained; I no longer yearn for a life of the past. I look at the demons within me and I have defeated them and they have not defeated me. I have finally conquered myself.

I now embrace my island without regret and walk into my destiny. I have been born, I have lived, I have loved and been loved, I have failed and succeeded, and I have forgiven. There is nothing more for me to do. I have become what I essentially was at birth, myself. I close my eyes and my soul transpires out of my body and takes me to a higher level of existence. I leave the pains of the world and embrace the wonders of what lie in front of me. A teardrop falls from my soul into the ocean, that is how it was created. I cease to exist.

Begin Again
  by: Collin McCarty, Source Unknown

One of the best things we can do in our lives is this:
Begin again.

Begin to see yourself as you were
When you were the happiest and strongest you've ever been.

Begin to remember what worked for you
(and what worked against you),
And try to capture the magic again.

Begin to remember how natural it was when you were a child --
To live a lifetime each day.

Begin to forget the baggage you have carried with you
For years:
The problems that don't matter anymore,
The tears that cried themselves away,
And the worries that are going to wash away
On the shore of tomorrow's new beginnings.

Tomorrow tells us it will be here every new day of our lives;
And if we will be wise,
We will turn away from the problems of the past
And give the future -- and ourselves -- a chance
To become the best of friends.
Sometimes all it takes is a wish in the heart to let yourself ..
Begin again.

Dukha dourmanasyangamejay atva shwasaprashwasa vikshepasahabhuvaha :

Which means "Sorrow, bitterness, body not listening to you, shaky and irregular inspiration and expiration are the companions of these distractions" .

In the previous Sutra, we discussed the nine obstacles on the path. What come with these obstacles are dukha or sorrow and "Dourmanasya" , which means bitterness of the mind.

Angamejayatva means the body is not listening to you. It is like a man who has drunk too much wants to go left but starts moving to the right. He wants to walk straight but his body goes won't comply. Angamejayatva is the lack of co-ordination between the body and the mind where the body wins.

Shwasa prashwasa means irregular, shaky and uncomfortable breathing. If you have observed your breath, when you are happy or excited, the incoming breath is longer. You are more aware of the incoming breath in the state of excitement. When you are unhappy, your exhalation is longer and there is a total imbalance of breath. Have you noticed this?

These are the vikshepas or distractions that come along with this obstructions.

Observe, Don't Identify
Observe the tendencies that come up in you, and do not think you *are* those tendencies.

Ignorance
The way to come out of ignorance is a definite understanding, a definite knowledge in the mind, that my body is undergoing change all the time, the world is undergoing change all the time, the entire universe is in a state of fluidity and it is all full of change and it is going on on its own, according to its nature.

I Am Not the Body
This definite knowledge, that I am not the body, I am the Self, I am the space, I am the Imperishable, untouched, untainted by the "prakriti," by this world around me; this body is all hollow and empty, and every particle in this body is changing, and changing, and changing; the mind is changing and changing and changing---this definite knowledge is *the* way out of the cycle.

God Loves Fun
Nature loves to give you surprises. God loves fun. He always gives you surprises--- sometimes pleasant, sometimes unpleasant. And you grow by unpleasant as well as by pleasant. In fact you grow much more by unpleasant surprises than the pleasant ones.

PostPosted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 1:37 pm    Post subject: Triple Filter test Reply with quote

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high
esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and
said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"

"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."

"Triple filter?"

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test.

The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not.

Now let's try the second filter, the filter of goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true.

You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left:

the filter of usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"

"No not really …”

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

This is why Socrates was a great philosopher & held in such high esteem.

Cold Within, The
  by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

Six humans trapped by happenstance
In black and bitter cold.
Each one possessed a stick of wood,
Or so the story's told.

Their dying fire in need of logs,
The first woman held hers back
For on the faces around the fire,
She noticed one was black.

The next man looking cross the way
Saw one not of his church,
And couldn't bring himself to give
The fire his stick of birch.

The third man sat in tattered clothes;
He gave his coat a hitch.
Why should his log be put to use
To warm the idle rich?

The rich man just sat back and thought
Of the wealth he had in store.
And how to keep what he had earned
From the lazy poor.

The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his sight,
For all he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white.

And the last man of this forlorn group
Did naught except for gain.
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.

The logs held tight in death's still hands
Was proof of human sin.
They didn't die from the cold without,
They died from the cold within.
